The Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI), is a Joint University Research Institute participated by the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) that conducts basic and applied research in human-centered robotics and automatic control.

The institute, founded in 1995, is a key player in the Spanish robotics and automatic control scenes, and a valued participant in a large number of international collaborations.

IRI has three main objectives:

To carry out excellence research in Robotics and Automatic Control To cooperate with the community in industrial technological projects To offer scientific education through graduate courses

The Institute's research activities are organized in four research lines:

María de Maeztu Excellence Unit

IRI has received the "María de Maeztu" scientific excellence seal for the period July 2017 to June 2021. In this period, a Strategic Research Program in human-centered robotics will be developed.

Consolidated Research Groups

IRI researchers belong to the next research groups accredited as "Grups Consolidats" by the Generalitat de Catalunya

KRD: Kinematics and Robot Design RobIRI: Grup de Robòtica de l'IRI SAC: Sistemes Avançats de Control VIS: Vision and Intelligent Systems

Quality Management System

In 2017, IRI has defined a Quality Management System based on ISO 9001:2015.
This system has been launched and audited with the collaboration of ACCIÓ-Generalitat de Catalunya. The audit certificate can be consulted here.
