'Have you heard this one ... ?"

It's a phrase which frequently opens a conversation between puzzle addicts-as, indeed, folklore would have
us believe it does among salesmen. Therefore, conundrum connoisseurs may already have established a nodding
acquaintance with a few of the puzzles that follow. As in my previous collection, I have deliberately included
some which are all-time classics, since to omit them would be to insult them. But you will also, I trust, find much that is new both to amuse and divert you. And that, after all, is the purpose of a puzzle. Certainly, mine are not designed to uncover any latent genius which you may possess. Nor, most definitely, are they a test of mathematical prowess. In fact, I have included only puzzles which need none of the specialized knowledge which we all left behind in our classrooms.
