A fundamental problem in computer vision, image segmentation serves many useful applications such as remote sensing, medicine, robotics, database search, and security. This book describes level set methods for image and image sequence segmentation. Chapter 1 contains an overview. The basic two-region static image segmentation formulations and generalizations to multiple regions are described in Chapter 2. Segmentation of images with specific statistical models is treated next (Chapter 3). The remaining chapters deal with the segmentation of optical flow in image sequences. Variational optical flow estimation is treated in Chapter 4, followed by joint optical flow estimation and segmentation in Chapter 5. The final chapter describes optical flow three-dimensional interpretation and segmentation.
