If your hobby is amateur radio or electronics you will often need coils in a variety of sizes, types, specifications, etc. coils are no longer as easy to find as they were 20 years ago so you will have to wind your own. With the help of this simple yet detailed manual you'll quickly build a machine that can wind universal and honey comb coils, single layer and multi-layer solenoids, close wound and space-wound coils, and pi-spaced coils such as those used for r-f chokes and transformers. And the mechanical counter gives you total control of accuracy.

Notes
I had occasion the other day to be out in my workshop. I was rummaging through the drawers for a particularly hard to use thingamabob (not to be confused with a thingamajig - which are easy to use, easy to find, and quite frankly, not nearly as useful). In the middle of my frantic search - for I needed the thingamabob to repair my last coil - it occurred to me that even if I found the thingamabob, I would not be able to repair the coil because the thingamabob was particularly hard to use, and I was looking for the wrong one anyway.

A light bulb came on - not literally of course, but it was one of those defining moments (okay, not defining) when something clicked in my brain (okay, it didn't "click" really, more of a flushing sensation). What I needed was not a thingamabob, and certainly not a thingamajig. I needed a coil, and better yet, I needed to make my own coil. Aren't they the best after all - self made coils?

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make my own coil, and certainly not how to make this particular coil. So I turned to Amazon, and lo-and-behold, the perfect book! Build a Universal Coil Winding Machine, by David J. Gingery! A self published title, no less, by a very spicy guy. Can't wait - five stars for the perfect solution!

Just wish I knew what kind of binding it had.
