Description

The robotic projects of the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial are varied and dynamic. For this reason, we are preparing a generic sensor data processing library to create maps of the environment and locate the robot in these maps, in a technique known in robotics as SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping).

The library, called WOLF (Windowed Localization Frames), incorporates many features for estimating movement, presenting the environment, or automatic calibration of sensors. Its purpose is to equip robots and human teams working on a versatile and powerful tool that allows the simple creation of sophisticated and advanced projects of mobile robotics, reaching as close as possible to the concept of plug-and-play.
Currently, we need the help of a programmer to give consistency to the code implemented so far. This should allow the WOLF project to grow and adapt to new needs. Among others, we aspire to:
- Offer a documentation from the WOLF nuclear library.
- Segment the bookshop in parts (plugins) to streamline its use, portability and handling.
- Offer a consistent API in all parts of the library, which is efficient and simple.
- Allow public library openness to accept contributors in open source mode.

The task of the candidate will be:
- To maintain IRI SLAM library.
- To redesign / rewrite parts of the library.
- Documentation.
- Public dissemination, licenses.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
A six-month, extendable to twelve-month, full-time research engineer position will be offered starting as soon as possible. The salary will be around 27000 € gross per year. Depending on the candidate, the contract can also be part-time. In this case the term and the salary will be adjusted accordingly.

The candidate will join a team consisting of experts in mobile robotics, led by Dr. Juan Andrade, and will be directly supervised by Dr. Joan Solà, principal investigator in the group, and leading creator of the WOLF library.
